Compromised data includes names, Social Security numbers, financial information, and medical records of customers and employees. Despite the breach occurring in October, Visionworks allegedly delayed notifying affected individuals until December, leaving them exposed to potential identity theft.
The complaint states:
“Due to the Defendant’s negligence, cybercriminals obtained everything they needed to commit identity theft and wreak havoc on the financial and personal lives of thousands of individuals.”

The lawsuit highlights the long-term risks faced by victims of the breach, accusing Visionworks of failing to protect private information entrusted to them. Despite assurances in the company’s privacy policy about robust security measures, the lawsuit alleges Visionworks did not meet these standards.

This is not the first legal issue for Visionworks. In 2022, the company faced a separate lawsuit alleging it sent unsolicited marketing messages, including texts to numbers registered on the National Do Not Call Registry.
